Mushk Seeds is an aromatic and medicinal plant native to India in the Malvaceae family. This plant is cultivated for its seeds, which have a characteristic musk-like odor. The seeds are the source of ambrette, an aromatic oil used in perfumery. Mushk Seeds is sometimes commercialized as an ornamental for its colorful and attractive flowers.
Ambrette oil is used in luxury perfumery, cosmetics and as an additive in the preparation of some kinds of chewing tobacco, baked products, sweets, alcoholic (e.g. vermouth and bitters) and non-alcoholic drinks. Worldwide, India, Colombia, Ecuador and Martinique are the main producers of ambrette oil. In India, the area cultivated with Musk Dana is rapidly increasing.
