Chandrashura Beej is a very famous Ayurvedic herb. Its seeds are useful in bloating, irregular periods, estrogens deficiency etc. It is for cooking as well. It is also called Aliv Seed. This species is native to Mediterranean region, introduced and naturalized, cultivated throughout the world. Within India, this Desi Jadi Buti is cultivated as a salad plant throughout, it is found as an escape.
The plant is known to contain imidazole, lepidine, semilepidinoside A and B, β-carotenes, ascorbic acid, linoleic acid, oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid , sinapic acid and sinapin. Lepidium sativum is reported to exhibit antihypertensive, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anticoagulant, anti rheumatic, hypoglycemic, laxative, prokinetic, anti diarrheal, and antispasmodic properties.
