Dronapushpi is Sanskrit name of plant Leucas cephalotes. Dronapushpi originates in two varieties, mainly, Dronapushpi (Leucas aspera) and Maha drona (Leucas cephalotes). It is a medicinal herb that grows as a weed in India and many South East Asian countries. The folk use of this herb is for treating scorpion stings, snake bite, cough, fever etc. The whole plant has fever educing and insecticidal properties. The leaves are applied externally on snake bites and scorpion stings.
It is an ancient ayurvedic herb that has been in use in several ritualistic practices and also as a folk remedy. Owing to its anti-microbial, insecticidal, larvicidal, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, dronapushpi is also used as an alternative medicine for the treatment of respiratory distress like asthma, cough, cold, liver disorders, scorpion sting, snake bites, fever, jaundice etc.
