Guggul – Guggal – (Desi Jadi Buti) is also known as guggulipid or its Sanskrit name guggulu (meaning “to protect against diseases”). In Ayurvedic medicine, guggul is used to balance the doshas and clear the obstruction of channels. Guggul is also touted as a weight loss stimulant.
This tree has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries, and Ayurvedic texts dating back to 600 BC recommend it for treating atherosclerosis. Today Guggul Gum resin is used for arthritis, lowering high cholesterol, “hardening of the arteries” (atherosclerosis), acne and other skin diseases.
