Kateri Stems – Desi Jadi Buti occurs throughout India, often in waste places, on roadsides and in open scrublands. It is a prickly, much branched shrub, usually spreading or diffused, It grows up to 1-5 meters in height. The young branches are densely covered with minute star – shaped hairs . Prickles are yellow, shining, about 1-5 cm long.
Kateri Stems is a perennial, very prickly diffused herb root-10-45 cm long, few mm to two cm in diameter, almost cylindrical and tapering, bearing a number of fine longitudinal and few transverse wrinkles with occasional scars or a few lenticels and small rootlets, transversely smoothened surface shows a thin bark and wide compact cylinder of wood, fracture, short, taste, bitter. Stems is part of a ten herbal roots group named Dasahamoola and Mahanarayan Oil that is used in Ayurveda.
